For me diamond stud earrings are the most wearable of all my pieces of diamond jewellery. You can wear them as a pair with one in each ear or singly (which is a style more favoured by men).
They are so versatile that they can be worn with anything from doing the shopping to a glitzy night out,
The way the diamond is set (held) in the earring can vary with the most traditional and popular setting using metal (usually gold) claws that grasp the diamond. Claw set diamond earrings also allow the most light to enter into the base and sides of the diamond which is then reflect outwards causing maximum sparkle.
The number of claws can vary, but the recommended number is four as too many can overpower the diamond and too few do not hold he stone securely enough. I also recommend that you purchase diamond stud earrings with screw backs as these are more secure than the older style butterfly push ons.
A more contemporary diamond setting is the rub-over style where the metal is literally rubbed over the diamond to hold it in place. The setting resembles a doughnut as the metal surrounds the diamond on all sides, and although this is a very secure setting which prevents the diamond chipping at the edges, it does not allow as much light to enter the diamond as the claw does.
Brilliant cut stud diamond earrings or square cut are the most popular. Don't go for the largest and cheapest diamond as this will be of inferior quality from a smaller one at the same price. And the smaller one should be clearer and give off more sparkle –something which is far more important than its size.
